The Ruzsa's
Ruzsa Quarter Horses is located near Selby, South Dakota. Rodney and Beverly Ruzsa raised four children on a Farm near Selby: Thomas, Donald, Nancy, and Jennifer. Currently Tom and his wife Heather live in the Minneapolis, Minnesota Area with two children; Ahni and Jolahn. Don lives in Hutchinson, Minnesota. Nancy resides also in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The youngest Jennifer makes her home on the place in Selby helping with the Ruzsa Quarter Horse enterprise.
Rodney Ruzsa has lived on a Dairy Farm his entire life. When he was younger, on his folk's place, Rodney took it on as his own passion to become involved with horses. He raised a few and also was involved in the local Roping competitions. When Rodney and Beverly decided to start their own Dairy the Horses were sold to help get the Dairy business up and running. It was not until the youngest, Jennifer, was around the age of nine that Rodney noticed that she had the same interest in Horses. Knowing the Dairy was a steady business now, Rodney decided to start getting involved in horses again. He bought Jennifer her first riding horse "Rio", and purchased his first Broodmare.
From that first Broodmare, Rodney has been very selective in what Mare he would buy and what stallion he would introduce to his mares. With a keen eye for a good horse and a great understanding of the great horses with foundation pedigree's the Ruzsa Quarter Horse industry continued to grow in strides.
A key ingredient in the growth of the Ruzsa Quarter Horse herd was Jennifer. Her interest in the horses never ceased and steadily became stronger. As she got older she realized that her Dad has created a very strong band of broodmares that were producing exceptional foals. It became enoyable for the Father and Daughter duo to work on building the enterprise.
There was one Mare purchase that would encourage the development of the Ruzsa Quarter Horse enterprise. This Mare's name was Surena Serenade. This Mare use to be a Barrel Horse for a young girl and she did quit well in many of the youth competitions. Knowing that this mare had a lot of talent was not the only thing that attracted us to her. She is a Daughter of the great horses Stradivarius and Surena Jo Reed. Stradivarius was an own son of the great horse Jet Deck and Surena Jo Reed was a daughter of the highly acclaimed horse Laughing Boy. From the minute this Mare was on the place we knew she was exceptional just by getting to know her personality.
We crossed this Mare with a Stallion who was very deserving. The Sire's name was Mr Docs Dakota. He is a son of the well known Stallion Sun Frost. Making this kind of a cross seemed to be the making of something special. Two horses with proven backgrounds in the competitive arena. The result of this particular cross provided two full brothers; Ima Sun Frost and Laughing San Frost. Ima Sun Frost the older of the two was gorgeous from the day he was born. He had his mothers tremendous hip, solid bone, and disposition. With his energy and athletic ability, undoubtably gathered from both parents, it was our decision to make keep this Palomino a Stallion.
Ima Sun Frost's younger brother, Laughing San Frost, also had all of the qualities to make a great horse. We decided to see what kind of a horse he would become. He went on to become a finished rope horse and soon found himself to be purchased by the Yates family. They went on to make him an even better rope prodigy and sold him to a young girl who has fallen in love with this horse they call "Jordan". Laughing San Frost has qualified for the AQHA World in different rope divisions and has earned points with the AQHA. You know when you have created something special when you have two great horses like both of these offspring from Surena Serenade.
With a great set of Broodmares, we have been introducing Ima Sun Frost to them and coming up with some great offspring who are ready and willing to prove themselves in and out of the arena. Now that the Dairy cows are no longer on the Ruzsa place the Quarter Horse business has it's time to shine. We are proud to introduce our new Stallion Sawyer Wood into the program and are really excited to see what will come of crossing these bloodlines.
Sawyer Wood is a son of Ciderwood who is an own son of Orphan Drift and the great Mare Poco Judy Sue. And Sawyer Wood is out of a Dam called Driftalong San who is an own daughter of Sak Em San and a Great grand daughter of
Driftwood Ike. You are sure to see great things come from the Ruzsa Quarter Horse place.
We take pride in our horses and are proud to present them to you!
